Former President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt will stand trial on charges of conspiring in the shooting deaths of protesters during the uprising that led to his ouster in February, the country's prosecutor general said Tuesday, an announcement that appeared to be intended to appease families of the victims and protesters gearing up for major demonstrations in the capital Friday.
